BOROUGH OF HILLSDALE

 

RESOLUTION

 

Title: Oppose New Jersey Transit Plans to Develop Railroad Sidings

 

            WHEREAS, the New Jersey Transit has proposed plans to place a railroad siding in Oradell, New Jersey which may include freight as well as passenger use; and

            WHEREAS, the placement of such siding raises environmental, safety and quality of life concerns for Pascack Valley towns generally and for Oradell in particular; and     

            WHEREAS, during a meeting held on February 19, 2004 many significant questions were raised regarding these concerns and remain to be addressed; and

            WHEREAS, Oradell has requested a full environmental impact study to be conducted to assure the protection of the community and environment;

            NOW, THEREFORE, be it resolved by the governing body of the Borough of Hillsdale that it supports and joins in the request of the Borough of Oradell,  and opposes the granting of any waiver to New Jersey Transit for stream encroachment , wetlands or any other permits pending the results of the study and be further, 

            BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Borough of Hillsdale requests that any environmental study also include the Borough of Hillsdale which has similar environmental concerns to assure its residents that the proposed use is safe.
