Title: Authorizing Traffic Restrictions

WHEREAS, The Borough Council recognizes that Hillsdale is subjected to a very high level of traffic and improved traffic routing and control is needed to handle this traffic in the safest and fairest manner; and

WHEREAS, To initiate traffic improvements, the Borough Council held a sixty (60) day test ending on March 21, 2004, at the intersections of Yesler Way and Hazelwood Avenue and Yesler Way and Beechwood Drive; and

WHEREAS, Based upon the information gathered from that test, the Council has decided to end that test and authorize other actions that it believes will improve traffic flow for the Yesler Way and Glenbrook Park area; and

WHEREAS,  The Borough Council subsequently authorized the installation of warning barriers by the Police Department and/or the Department of Public Works to prohibit vehicles from entering Hazelwood Avenue from Yesler Way, from exiting Beechwood Drive westbound onto Yesler Way and from entering or exiting Sycamore Avenue at Beechwood Drive from March 21, 2004 to May 21, 2004; and

WHEREAS, The Borough Council conducted public hearings to obtain the sentiments of the public regarding the temporary closures; and

WHEREAS, The Borough Council concluded upon completion of that test and public hearings that certain conditions be made permanent;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Hillsdale Council determines that the closure of Beechwood Drive westbound at Yesler Way is in the best interest of the Borough and its residents and that it now be made permanent;

            BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Borough Attorney and Borough Engineer shall take the necessary actions to obtain approval from the New Jersey Department of Transportation to make this closure permanent.
