RESOLUTION

Title: Authorize Submission of Application for NJDOT Safe Route to School Program

 

WHEREAS, the Borough of Hillsdale wishes to apply for funding in the amount of $200,000.00 to conduct imprinting of crosswalks along the school routes, sidewalks and enforcement of crosswalks, within the Borough of Hillsdale; and

 

WHEREAS, this project will help promote pedestrian safety for the school children; and

 

WHEREAS, the Borough of Hillsdale will assume the responsibility for maintenance of the crosswalks; and

 

WHEREAS, the only maintenance that will not be assumed by the Borough of Hillsdale will be the removal of ice and snow from the sidewalks, and the maintenance of grass between the sidewalk and curb due to the fact that local ordinances place that responsibility with each individual property owner and those crosswalks on State or County highways; and

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED,  by the Borough Council of the Borough of Hillsdale that it hereby supports the submission of a grant application for the Safe Routes to School Program within the State of New jersey Department of Transportation and authorizes the Mayor, the Administrator and the Municipal Clerk to execute any and all documents necessary and related to the submission of said grant application.
