RESOLUTION

 

Title: Authorize and Execute a Grant Application/Agreement with the

New Jersey Department of Transportation for the Borough of Hillsdale Intersection/Crosswalk Enhancement Program

 

WHEREAS, the Borough of Hillsdale desires to receive $275,000 in funds from the New Jersey Department of Transportation’s Transportation Enhancement Program funded through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act for the purpose of making pedestrian safety improvements to key intersections where prior motor vehicle to pedestrian accidents have occurred within the commercial districts in the Borough of Hillsdale; and

           

WHEREAS, the Department’s Transportation Enhancement Program is to provide funding for non-traditional transportation projects that enhance the safety, cultural, aesthetic, historic, and environmental aspects of the State’s transportation system; and

 

WHEREAS, the Borough Engineer has developed a plan of action and cost estimate to make pedestrian safety improvements to key intersections where prior motor vehicle to pedestrian accidents have occurred within the commercial districts in the Borough of Hillsdale; and

 

WHEREAS, the Borough of Hillsdale has previously completed a School Walking Plan, which has incorporated these intersections, in September 2008; and

 

WHEREAS, the enhancement project will benefit the entire community and the local schools of the Borough by providing more aesthetic and safer paths of travel; and

 

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the Borough, formally approves the grant application for the above stated project.

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Mayor and Clerk are hereby authorized to submit an electronic grant application to the New Jersey Department of Transportation on behalf of the Borough of Hillsdale.

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Mayor and Clerk are hereby authorized to sign the grant agreement on behalf of the Borough of Hillsdale and that their signature constitutes acceptance of the terms and conditions of the grant agreement and approves the execution of the grant agreement.
