RESOLUTION

Title: Certification of Local School Tax Levy

 

WHEREAS, the voters of the Borough of Hillsdale have rejected the Hillsdale Board of Education Budget at the annual district school election for the school year 2010-2011; and

WHEREAS, the budget was submitted to the voters of the Borough of Hillsdale as follows:

Current Expense Tax Levy                           $17,871,850.00

WHEREAS, pursuant to NJ.S.A. 18A:22-37, the Mayor and Council of the Borough of Hillsdale consulted with the members of the Board of Education after receipt of said proposed budget; and

WHEREAS, the Mayor and Council have reviewed the defeated school budget to determine the amounts of money necessary to provide a thorough and efficient education and maintain stability necessary for long term budgeting and planning in the Borough of Hillsdale and set forth reductions which will not adversely affect the district’s ability to provide education because they are based on suggestions from the Board of Education, plus reductions which would maintain the same staffing though eliminating increases in salary; and

WHEREAS, the amount the Mayor and Council have determined necessary to provide a thorough and efficient education is as follows:

Original Proposed Tax Levy                                              $17,871,850.00

 

Reduction per Mayor & Council                                            $215,000.00

(As set forth on itemized spreadsheet attached hereto)

 

Amount of Tax Levy to be Certified                                 $17,656,850.00

BE IT RESOLVED, that the aforesaid amount be raised by taxation as required

by law.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, after reviewing the proposed budget as it had been presented to the voters of the municipality, the Mayor and Council have resolved to reduce the proposed budget and do hereby direct the Board of Education enact the decreases on the attached spreadsheet, which is incorporated in reference herein.
