Welcome to the Hillsdale Board of Health
The Board of Health is an autonomous body appointed by the Mayor and operates under the regulation of the New Jersey Department of Health. The Board of Health creates public health policy for the Borough of Hillsdale to ensure that proper health standards are maintained within the Borough.  The Board of Health is the only municipal organization besides the Mayor ad Council with the power to enact ordinances and oversee such Borough Ordinances.  The ordinances are in place to guarantee healthy living conditions in the Borough of Hillsdale.

The Hillsdale Board of Health is where you can apply for a marriage license, acquire certified copies of birth, marriage and death certificates, as well as license your dog and/or cat. We have two Public Health Nurses on staff and offer well baby clinics and special programs throughout the year.

We also issue food licenses, as well as take health related complaints. The Board regulates the maintenance of food and beverage vending machines and retail food establishments, controls the keeping of animals, authorizes the inspection of premises by the health officer, and oversees and regulates other establishments in order to guarantee healthy living circumstances. The Board of Health also annually contracts with the Northwest Bergen Regional Health Commission, an organization that provides a variety of health-related services.

The Borough of Hillsdale utilizes Northwest Bergen Regional Health Commission for most Health Department Services.
